Muskingum University is a private four-year comprehensive college, located in New Concord, which is a village in Muskingum County, in the US state of Ohio, with a population of more than 2600 inhabitants, at the time of the 2000 census.
The university was established in 1837 and it is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). It has a strong liberal arts tradition, and offers more than 40 academic majors, at the undergraduate level, and graduate programs in education and management information systems, strategy and technology, `to develop - intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically - whole persons.`
Muskingum's athletic teams are nicknamed the Fighting Muskies and they compete in NCAA Division III, as members of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Their distinctive colors are black and magenta.
